The UK is one of the innovators in the field of global BIM technologies . This country was the first to take the initiative to regulate the implementation of the technology in construction at the state level. Work on creating a strategy began immediately after the turn of the millennium, and in 2011, the Cabinet of Ministers of the country presented the "Government Construction Strategy", regulating the widespread use of BIM. The implementation of the technology in construction is carried out in accordance with BS (British Standard) standards. In 2020, the UK national profile committee released an updated version of the standard, which became one of the most important BIM news of this year.
The main objective of the innovations was to increase the level of security in the field of information modeling and to solve problems related to the preservation of confidential information. In particular, the document defines the rules of conduct for companies that have gained access to certain information within the framework of inter-industry cooperation.
The head of the BSI standards department noted the importance of the amendments. According to the specialist, any exchange of information can inadvertently disclose confidential data about the construction site. As a result, changes in the infrastructure can become critical. The changes are adopted in relation to all existing life cycles of buildings - from their design to complete decommissioning.
