GIP, chief project engineer, a key figure in construction projects.

There are moments that are related to the personal qualities and professional skills of a good CIP. Let's see what makes an engineer a real CIP.

The Chief Design Engineer is an important link in the design and implementation processes of a project, between the contractor and the customer.

At the legislative level, the Chief Project Engineer “… bears the responsibility established by law for the technical and economic level and architectural solutions of the objects under construction, for the quality, timely development and completeness of the design and estimate documentation, the correct determination of the estimated cost and construction sequence, for the achievement by enterprises of design indicators within the established timeframes, as well as for the fulfillment of all duties assigned to it…”. These lines indicate a multi-level interaction of the Chief Project Engineer with all stages of design and implementation.

The functionality of the GIP is extensive.

- distribution of estimates;

- search for performers;

- participation in tenders;

- collection of initial data and preparation of design materials for each contractor in such a form that it will not affect the deadlines and will not have any consequences in the future;

- control over the preparation of technical specifications;

- control over the fact that the technical specifications and necessary documents are on hand in a timely manner - and this means requests and constant correspondence;

- going to expert examinations;

- layout of an electronic or paper archive.

The first and most important skill of a chief engineer, without which a person of this profession will not be able to succeed, is a strong personality.

Sociability, communication skills, the ability to build a dialogue, neutralize aggression, prove your opinion are important both in relations with subordinates and with management and customers. A first-class negotiator is already half the success of the Chief Project Engineer.

The second most important point is experience as an ordinary engineer. This is the only way to understand the essence of the work of your subordinates, earn authority and acquire the skill of interaction with other sections of the project. In this way, the Chief Project Engineer will be able to competently and effectively manage the design process - in his hands will be the levers of control over the performers involved in the process.

The third factor is the need for constant monitoring of the relevance of standards, because this or that decision in the project and the passing of the examination will seriously depend on it. A competent Chief Project Engineer understands this well. Know the standards = protect the project. Ignorance of the "fresh" standards - big problems can arise at the final stage of the project. It is even scary to imagine what a negative result this can have - failure to meet deadlines, financial losses for the customer.

The Chief Project Engineer is legally responsible for all decisions made in the project and reflected in the drawings. The Chief Project Engineer bears legal responsibility for project errors: administrative and criminal.
